The meeting brought together leading experts in the field of political communication around the world, including advisors and strategists of leaders such as Barack Obama, David Cameron, George W. Bush, John McCain, Tony Blair, Romano Prodi or Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The 3rd and 4th June focused on the analysis of how communication is changing governments, political parties and leaders through the development of social media and the exposure of successful case studies that have based their strategy on the usage of the Internet. Among the speakers were Matthew Dowd, Joe Trippi, Michael Dolley, James Aldrete, Cesar Martinez or Daniel Ureña.

On the other hand, on June the 2nd was held the Master Class, which was focused on the use that Spanish politicians make of the Internet and social media from the perspective of consultants in corporate communication and online media experts both on social networking and the media fields.

Daniel Ureña, Managing Director of MAS Consulting Spain, organizer company of the event, said that "it has been a very enriching event thanks to the variety of topics and the presence of such distinguished speakers who offered the attendees practical and intelligent speeches, demonstrating the power of the Internet in political campaigns and the tools and excellent results which it can bring to a successful communication strategy".

MoveOn.org, the citizens' power

MoveOn.org, the citizens' power

Published By: info@eapc2011.eu. 05/17/2011

MoveOn.org is the citizens' platform which helped Barack Obama win the primaries elections in 2008, and already has five million members. Through an online strategy, has managed to mobilize a large number of American in the political struggle to put progressive candidates in theCongress and the White House.

In 2008, MoveOn.org and Fenton, a specialized in election campaigns company, collaborated with Obama's team to get the victory and, after that, launched the largest volunteers' mobilization to help the senator to be nominated by the Democratic Party and became U.S. president.

To maintain and increase the leader's popularity and deal with the attacks he could receive, the two organizations designed a strategic communications campaign based on mobilizing the base of MoveOn.org (through internal communication), solid relationships with media (through meetings with key journalists), generating news from advertising, and quick response to counteract possible attacks and update the campaign's content. As Barack Obama said, "real change does not come from the top down but from bottom up".

Felipe Benítez is the Account Director for Latin America in Fenton, the company which helped MoveOn.org to be successful, and will share in the 16th EAPC Summit in his paper "The future of internet: trends, tools and new players in political communication" his experience and knowledge in this field.

If you want to listen to him and other political communication internationally recognized experts, register now the EAPC2011.
